Did You Know?

  • The North Reading Food Pantry does not have a true home of its own, and uses a 435 square foot space at the Town Hall. 
  • Donations of non-perishable food items and other items often have to be temporarily stored off-site.
  • Volunteers must often set up and take down additional tables for pantry guests to shop.
  • There is no private meeting space to offer assistance to its guests nor dedicated office space. 
  • The current pantry is not handicap accessible.

The Gift of a New Home!

Local Church Donates a Building for the Food Pantry's Exclusive Use!

To mark it’s 300th anniversary, the Union Congregational Church in North Reading is giving an 1,100 sq.ft. historic building to the North Reading Food Pantry to serve as a convenient and much needed home! (Currently, the Food Pantry borrows a 435 sq. ft. space at the Town Hall, which does not meet its needs.)


To fund the building's renovation and prepare it for occupancy, the Food Pantry and the 300th Anniversary Committee have teamed up and launched a $220,000 capital campaign. Learn more about how you can support the NRFP HOME Fund.

The New Food Pantry Home Means...

  • The ability to better store, stock, and provide food, including fresh produce and frozen meats... which means healthier diets for clients.
  • Flexible scheduling will make it easier to meet client needs.
  • Pantry space will more than DOUBLE to 1,100 square feet plus 900 square feet for storage on the second floor. 
  • The long-wished for walk-in freezer will become a reality.
  • Ample parking with easy, on-grade access to the building will greatly help clientele.
  • ADA specifications will finally be met.
  • Private space for clients needing confidential meetings will be provided.
  • The good location in the heart of town, close to Peabody Court and the Senior Center, is expected to draw a wider client base. 
  • A cleaner, brighter, more welcoming and accessible space will invite additional clients with needs into the North Reading Food Pantry.
