If you are interested in volunteering for the food pantry, please contact us! We're happy to answer any questions you may have and tell you about current volunteer roles and needs. We use sign up genius to coordinate our volunteers - we will send you the link when you contact us.

Our organization is comprised entirely of volunteers. Our Board of Directors includes people who volunteer on a regular basis, plus representatives of the churches in North Reading.

Volunteer Requirements

All of our volunteers must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be able to stand for two hours
  • Be able to read expiration dates on food labels (it's harder than you think!)
  • Be able to lift at least 25 pounds
  • Maintain confidentiality of our clients

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers fill the following time slots on a regular basis:

  • Mondays: 9:00am - 11:30am *
  • First & Third Mondays: 6:15pm - 8:30pm*
  • Fridays: 11:00am - 12:30pm
  • * Students are not allowed to volunteer during these times in order to maintain client confidentiality as these shifts occur during client shopping times

These are some of the jobs that our volunteers do:

  • Sort food donations by type and expiration date
  • Stock shelves
  • Fill orders of fresh and frozen foods
  • Bag orders
  • Carry orders

Drivers

Volunteer Responsibilities

Drivers

Currently we are fully staffed- but we use volunteer drivers to drive our box truck to the Greater Boston Food Bank on Friday mornings. Please contact us if you are interested in this opportunity and we will place you on our call list should we need additional help.
